New Year Focus on Self Defense

New Year Focus on Self Defense

Focus on Defense Training for the New Year!

As recent current events have shown, the world seems to becoming a more and more dangerous place. It seems that random shootings and acts of violence are almost a daily occurence in the nation, and no city or town seems to be immune from these outbreaks. For the martial artist, this means being more prepared than ever for the need to defend yourself or your loved ones from possible harm.

The modern day street fighting scenario has changed dramatically over the past several decades, and your martial arts practice must adapt accordingly. The fair fight of a one on one opponent altercation is no longer a reality. One must adapt to the more violent environment of mulitple opponents, riots, and weapon attacks. I highly recommend that if you are serious about preparing yourself for modern combat, you introduce some more reality based techniques in your training.

The decision to carry a knife or a firearm is a personal one, and if you do decide to arm yourself, be sure to check the laws in your area regarding concealed carry. In addition, make sure that whatever weapon you choose to utilize, you constantly practice in its deployment and techniques so that it becomes a part of you. The worst thing to happen is to have your own weapon used against you in an altercation!

Impact Weapons

One of the safest and most effective methods to legally arm yourself for the modern combat environment is to carry a tactical pen or flashlight. These are very unobtrusive weapons but can be extremely effective in the hands of a skilled fighter. Tactical pens range in price and style, and can be easily found online at several sites. One of the best sites I have found with great prices and service is www.knifecenter.com. They have a huge variety that can fit your budget and personal taste.

Simple Seven System

I am in to process of producing a new Self Defense video that is effective for anyone regardless of your fighting background. For the trained martial artist, this system is even much more effective and can be expanded to fit your own combat style. The system is based around 7 angles of attack and defense, and is applicable to open hand, impact weapons such as a pen or flashlight, and especially effective for reverse grip knife fighting. I hope to have it completed and available by the end of February. Anyone wanting a prieview of the techniques can contact me for private lessons via Skype or in person.
